BORNEO

Why not consider the Borneo as an exotic and exclusive destination for your next conference or incentive travel.

Borneo is known for its pristine beaches, rainforests and wildlife including orangutans and the endangered proboscis monkeys, and if you are lucky you may even get a peek at pygmy elephants.

In August this year one of our team went to explore what Borneo had to offer for conference and incentive travel, staying at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, located in countries capital, Kota Kinabalu – moving on to explore the magic of Sepilok Nature Resort.

On arriving at the Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria, we received the warmest welcome by the ever attentive team of dedicated staff who look after your every need. This hotel boasts the premier spot for hosting meetings and events in Sabah – and we can confirm you won’t be disappointed!

The hotel offers luxurious facilities and the professional Shangri-La service amidst natural beauty. Whether you are hosting a feast for 600 or a cocktail party for 1,000, the Grand Ballroom offers generous space and elegance. In additional there are eight other Function Rooms and a Boardroom available to use all which feature state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment

Accommodation comprises of 499 elegantly appointed guestrooms and suites in the Garden Wing. However, for those really special groups who demand the very highest levels of luxury, the exclusive Ocean Wing offers 173 premier rooms with private outdoor bathtubs and sweeping views of the sea that can be hired exclusively for your group.

During your event you can take a moment to go back to nature, take a break from the meeting room and discover the real Borneo. Experience the unique nature reserve, scale the breakfast summit, take on the canopy walkway or learn about wildlife conservative. Alternatively, you can have a meeting in the lush gardens or receive a cookery masterclass and learn about the art of using Malaysian herbs from the herb garden. End the day with sunset cocktails and dinner in a beach-side gazebo.

The second part of our journey took us to the historical city of Sandakan, and the must see eco- tourism destination of Sepilok Nature Reserve. A mini rain forest oasis, where you will find comfortable bungalows hidden within the resort grounds surrounded by tropical plants orchids and huge trees. The resort is within walking distance to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the leading centre of excellence for orangutans, where you will see rescued animals, nursed back to health and once fully recovered returned to the wild. This along with the Sun Bear Conservation Centre, is a must see for all, and if you are extra lucky you will be woken with the sound of wild macaque walking on your roof!

Whilst in Sabah we would definitely recommend a visit to the impressive Kinabatangan River, home to an array of wildlife, navigate the jungle backwaters in small boats. During the experience you will see macaques, the very rare red leaf monkey, rhinoceros hornbill, blue banded kingfishers and the indigenous proboscis monkey, with his unique large nose sitting proudly in the trees – this is a rare a must do experience.

Borneo has a lot to offer delegates, amazing nature, stunning scenery couple with a luxurious resorts at affordable rates, what more could you ask for!
